Vineyards & Winery
Estate
Champagne Richardot cultivates 12 hectares of vines in the Côte des Bar, within a 6 km radius of the estate’s cellars, mainly in the village of Essoyes. From the vineyard to the winery, the Richardot family is driven by respect for the land and living things. This philosophy is reflected in their cuvées, which are both sincere and authentic.

“Jean-Paul is a devoted environmentalist specialised in water management and landscape protection. He contributes his in-depth knowledge on the environment and biodiversity. He loves to share his experience and talk about these issues. He is open-minded and we are aligned with our neverending determination to do better and have the least impact possible on our surroundings.”
This is the southernmost AOC Champagne vineyard. The soil contains marl, clay and limestone, an environment in which Pinot Noir – the region’s predominant grape variety – thrives. And Champagne Richardot follows suit, because Pinot Noir makes up 85% of its production, with the rest being Chardonnay. A few ares of Pinot Blanc have recently been planted as well.
Champagne Richardot has been certified
HVE [High Environmental Value] since 2016.
The Richardot family pay careful attention to the work they do, whether in the vineyards or at the winery. In the vineyards, that means respecting the soils, careful disbudding and trellising, and controlling yields to encourage concentration. During the harvest, everything possible is put in place to produce high quality grapes at optimum ripeness.
“Jean-Paul really loves this quote by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry ‘We don’t inherit the earth from our ancestors, we borrow it from our children.’ That is a great way of summarising his vision and commitments for almost 40 years now. Even though we have lots of new ideas for the future, we are keen to stay focused on the idea of longevity. “
Eugène and Augustin
“Even though we believe that taking an integrated approach to viticulture is essential, we don’t want to become known simply as a green business. We decide on our working methods based on a desire to do the right thing, to produce the best champagne possible, showcasing the treasures of our incredible terroir. We don’t see it as a way of developing our business.”

Winery
Very early on, Champagne Richardot equipped itself with a modern production tool: its own pressing centre. That allowed it to produce the best champagne under the best conditions: channeling the benefits of modern technology into authentic know-how to create the best possible wines. The family controls its wine production process from start to finish, which is a major asset in a drive for excellence.
“Eugène and Augustin love experimenting in the cellar: testing vinification by parcel, a new grape variety, and so on. Even though I don’t always agree with them, we talk about things together and we listen to each other. I have to admit that the enthusiam of the young is always a real delight. It’s wonderfully satisfying to see that they are driven by the same passion as the generations that went before them.
Our estate has grown with the appellation and the rise of champagnes from the Côte des Bar. My father Jackie developed our pressing business, and we’ve come to be one of the biggest pressing sites in Champagne. I was determined to carry that torch as well, vinifying our own wines, growing our vineyards, and so on.”
